Data Curation Research Summit Coordinated by: Scott Brandt |
Accommodations: Please see the International Digital Curation Conference hotel information: http://www.dcc.ac.uk/events/conferences/6th-international-digital-curation-conference. For questions on summit logistics, please contact Allison Kelly (amkelly@illinois.edu). OverviewThe aims of the summit are to build awareness of complementary research efforts and interests, foster stronger collaborations, and advance the LIS research agenda in data curation. The meeting is a continuation of the workshop that followed the Fourth Bloomsbury Conference on E-Publishing and E-Publications held June 24-25, 2010, Valued Resources: Roles and Responsibilities of Digital Curators and Publishers. That workshop brought together approximately 30 international leaders in digital curation and e-publishing to discuss next steps in research, education, and practice. It was co-sponsored and organized by the University College London (UCL) Department of Information Studies and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) This summit extends the discussion on research, with an expanded group of participants and a stricter focus on the curation of research data. Our intent is to consider the particular contributions LIS research brings to the larger data curation research arena, and to make progress on developing a strategic research agenda that leverages LIS expertise and productive interdisciplinary collaborations to address research challenges facing the data curation field. The program will offer perspectives from researchers in I-schools and research libraries, and continue to emphasize the intersection of curation and publishing. Background Reading We are pleased to be able to share the report from the June workshop to help provide grounding for the summit: Advancing Research and Practice in Digital Curation and Publishing: Summary Report and Recommendations of the Workshop on Next Steps in Research, Education and Practice. We hope that you will read the report in preparation for our exchange on December 9th.
